ABOUT ME
I am a journalist working for Radio Prague International. I also produce and record radio documentaries and occasionally television programs and audio guides mainly about the United States. From time to time, I do some guiding myself, most often in North America and my home country of Czechia.
My life motto: be curious!
My story
I was born in the Vysočina region of Czechia and spent my childhood and part of my youth there. Then I studied, worked, and lived elsewhere in the Czech Republic and abroad, the longest period of time in the United States. In 2017, I returned to the Vysočina region because it is my home, although I often still have to travel around the Czech Republic and abroad for work.
I studied Czech and English in Olomouc in the 1980s, and for a few years I made my living teaching and organizing language courses, but since 1994 I have been a journalist.
I recently calculated that, quite incredibly, I lived at 27 addresses in 6 countries on two continents. And by that, I mean longer-term addresses where I would receive mail, I paid electricity, telephone, and other bills, not just some temporary ones for a few days. So, I really traveled a lot and with a few exceptions, it was always for work.
I am very lucky that my wife Marcela has always been there for me, tolerated my eternal wandering around the world, and is always patient.
My son Vojta (22) and daughter Klárka (15) make me very happy. They are great students and friendly young people.
I like photography, videography, walking and jogging in the countryside, jumping rope, and also skydiving: I completed 232 jumps, enjoyed them very much, and survived them in good health.
